Obituary for Melvin Earl Brown Jr.

Melvin Earl Brown, Jr. of Mesquite, born October 1, 1940, passed away September 22, 2017. As a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, his passing has left a void in our hearts and he will be greatly missed.

Melvin was born in Grain Valley, Missouri to Melvin Earl Brown, Sr. and Florence Amelia Buck Brown, who preceded him in death. After attending 1 year of college he enlisted July 30, 1958 in the Navy serving in active duty until October 1961 and then 3 years in the reserves. His boat deposited the first troops into combat and then returned to bring them out. Before that they made 3 mission trips into Vietnam.

Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years and 10 months, Glenna Lea Mann Brown; 3 beloved sons, Melvin E. of Forney, TX., Michael R. and wife, Kimberlee, Dennis D. both of Scurry, TX; grandchildren, Amber Lea Fritts, husband, Brian; great grandchildren, Addison L. and Braxton C. Fritts, Oklahoma, Matthew D. Brown, Florida, Melvin M. Brown, Puerto Rico, Nicholas S. Brown, Gabriel C. Brown, Moriah G. Brown and Joshua L. Brown, Scurry. Also surviving is a brother, John W. Brown, wife, Audrey, Fairview, TX; sisters, Joyce M. Snitker, Independence, MO, and Florence M. Long, Suwanee, GA.

Melvin loved racing cars from open wing dirt tract to modified stock. But in the mid 60's, after a car accident in which he was the passenger, he was unable to work for an entire year. Grain Valley, MO. community was there for us and in return when his health returned he joined the police force to give back to that same community. Later in life he restored 1964-1965 Mustangs. But his greatest love was doing things his kids were involved in. He became a Den Master for the Boy Scout Troop in Tulsa, OK. With his giving spirit and love for cars, when he heard about Mimosa Lane's PitStop ministry he was there to help, it was such a joy to him again knowing he was helping folks in the community we lived in. Serving as greeter at the door on Sunday morning was another of the joys in his life. Today there is no more suffering nor pain. Rest in peace my love, we will see you again soon.

Service will be 10:00AM, Wednesday September 27, 2017 at New Hope Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday evening at the funeral home from 6PM - 8PM. Interment will be in D/FW National Cemetery at 1:30PM Wednesday.

===========================

MELVIN EARL BROWN, JR. was born on October 1, 1940 in Grain Valley, Missouri. Melvin passed away at his home in Mesquite, Texas, on September 22, 2017 with his loving family at his side after a long and valiant battle with illness.

He was married to Glenna Lea Mann Brown, who was from Buckner, Missouri, and together they raised three boys into fine men. He and Glenna were both grandparents and great-grandparents and loved their family with all their hearts.

Melvin served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war, was deployed to Vietnam, was honorably discharged and was a proud veteran. He also served honorably as a police officer in the Grain Valley, Missouri Police Department.

He enjoyed golfing, walking, Texas Rangers baseball, reading his Bible and books, serving and mentoring at his church, cross-word puzzles, John Wayne movies, his original, pristine antique 1964 Ford Mustang, NASCAR, racing his own car, working on cars, and, most importantly, spending time with his wife and family.

Melvin was a very devoted Christian and a long-time member of Mimosa Lane Baptist Church in Mesquite, Texas and was very involved in his church's activities and charities.

He was a great friend to many and always willing to help someone if needed.

Melvin, you will be missed, but, by God's promises, your family knows you will all be gloriously reunited.

May God bless and be with you, Melvin, as He is with your family and friends.

[Written by Laura V., who will dearly miss Melvin's friendship, sense of humor, fatherly advice and sincere Christian love. He will be missed by many.]
