Maude Julie Mitchell Black

Maude Julie Mitchell Black, 82, of Old Fort, N.C., went to be with her Lord Saturday July 29, 2006.

Maude was born June 24, 1924 in Alexander County to the late Carr Mitchell and Mary Barnette Mitchell.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Rebecca Lawing; two brothers, Ralph and Sam Mitchell; and two sisters, Ella Godfrey and Daphne Harrington.

She is survived by her husband James H. Black of 60 years; one son, Steve M. Black and his wife Celeste of Concord; three daughters, Ruther Raffield and her husband Clark of Old Fort, Fay Wright and her husband Bill of Marion; and Vicky Hatton and her husband Jesse of Canton; one brother Claude Mitchell of Statesville; one sister Marciele Mitchell Bowles of Kannapolis; eight grandchildren, Tristan Black, Sandra Moritz, Tim Raffield, Ivan Lawing, Kristal Manning, Ami Williams, Heather Edwards and Kelly Edwards, and eight great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 1, 2006 at Nealsville Church of God located of Mud Cut Road, Marion with the Revs. Doug Carpenter, David Miner, Jerry Lewis and Arnold Hancock officiating. Pallbearers were David Manning, Matt Wiiliams, Adam Hatton, Jeremy Curran, Ronnie Smith, John Patton, Brandon Gaddy and Andrew Pressley.

Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. July 31, 2006 at Kirksey Funeral Home in Old Fort. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Nealsville Church of God Cemetery Fund at 27 Bethel Church Road Marion, NC 28752. The family would like to thank the staff at The McDowell Hospital, Mission Hospitals (both Mission and St. Joseph's campus) and Moutain View Wellness Center for their wonderful care of their wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.

Proverbs 31:28-29 - Her children rise up and call her blessed, and her husband boast of and praises her, saying ˜Many daughter have done virtuously, nobly and well but you excel them all."
