Charles “Shorty” Luther Deaton, age 89, a longtime resident of Greenfield, passed away Friday, September 22, 2017 at Franklin United Methodist Community. Born on June 12, 1928 in Hazard, Kentucky, he was the son of Alex and Luticia (Herald) Deaton. He married Imogene York in October 1945 and was proceeded in death by Imogene in 2004.

Mr. Deaton proudly served in the United States Army in Korea and retired from Ford Motor Company after 35 years. During retirement, he enjoyed gardening and spending time with family and friends.

Surviving Shorty are sons, Robbie (and wife, Roxa) of Edinburgh, Larry (and wife, Martha) of Fairland, Gary (and wife, Joyce) of Greenfield and Kenneth of Charlottesville; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 29, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 West US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. A graveside committal service will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Dale Cemetery, 801 N. Gregg Rd, Connersville, IN 47331 with full military rites presented.
