Following his education, he moved to Stockholm, Sweden where he was employed in the metalworking trade. In 1882, after formulating his idea for a blowtorch, he quit his job and started manufacturing them. The business initially didn't go well due to the lengthy production and marketing time and by 1886 he switched to making wire and paraffin oil/kerosene cookers. He later founded the Max Sieverts Lodlampfabrik company, which at the time was one of the largest industries in Sundyberg (near Stockholm), Sweden. His interest in airplanes and steam engines led him to develop a light weight steam-powered aircraft in 1897 which he called Flugan (The Fly). However, other than a few jumps, he was never able to get it completely airborne. He died at the age of 80.
