John was born in West Virginia before the Davis Family oved to Conemaugh, PA.
The Selective Service Board #39 of Johnstown drafted John and he was inducted into the Marines 14 January 1966 in Pittsburgh.
When John arrived in Vietnam he was assigned to Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division. The battalion was participating in Operation Union with Fox Company operating I the vicinity of Binh Son (1) and 5 kilometers south southeast of Que Son when the Marines encountered a large hostile force. John died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head from hostile rifle fire. The battalion lost a total of 45 Marines and 1 Corpsman during the intense fighting.
