Edward D. Ellis, 85, a longtime resident of Windsor, passed away Monday morning at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in White River Jct., VT.

He was the son of Roy and Ladoretta (Fadden) Ellis and received his schooling in Windsor. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Windsor. He married Pauline R. Hill in Windsor on April 1, 1967.

Ed was employed at the former Pippin Machine Company in Windsor before being employed as a machinist at the former Cone Blanchard Machine Tool Company for thirty five years until his retirement in 1991. He was a life member of the Hartland Fish and Game, a life member of the Windsor American Legion Post #25, a member of the VFW, and a member of the Vermont National Guard. He was also a member of the Connecticut Valley FM Club. He greatly enjoyed HAM radios and was a member of the Amateur Radio Relay League, with his call sign KA1IIJ. He and his wife performed emergency communications with the National Guard in NH following ice storm Janice in 1998. They also spent many hours, volunteering their radio communication skills assisting many charitable events. Eddie, as he was known, enjoyed working hard, he liked the outdoors, gardening, cutting trees, maple sugaring, beekeeping, playing cards and board games and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed spending time at the family camp on Lake Champlain in Orwell. He was predeceased by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Pauline R. Ellis, one son, Jerry E. Ellis, one daughter, Tammy J. Ellis, all of Windsor, and two grandchildren, Floie Bright of Windsor and Jerry E. Ellis, Jr. of Bellows Falls, VT.

Visitation will be held Sunday evening, October 1 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Knight Funeral Home in Windsor. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 2 at 11:00 AM the funeral home. Committal services with military honors will follow in the Ascutney Cemetery in Windsor. A reception for family and friends will follow at the American Legion Post on Court Street in Windsor. The Knight Funeral Home in Windsor is entrusted with the arrangements.
