Marilyn Phyllis Henze (86) passed from this life on September 20, 2017 after a short but stubborn battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Salt Lake City in 1931 to Harold and Thelma Cutler, she lived a life where she was known for loving everyone.
At age 16, she graduated high school and married Mel Remy (later divorced). In 1965, she met the love of her life: a suave German immigrant named Karl and they later married. Karl lost his eyesight in 1975 and Marilyn became the designated driver. This position lasted even after Karl's death as she continued as the main chauffer for all of her friends. She is the proud mother of four children: Karen (Steve) Gundersen, Tom (Deanne) Remy, David (Brooke) Henze and Carol Hill.
Marilyn and Karl served a full-time mission in Munich German where she did the driving and Karl taught in German. Marilyn worked many jobs during her life but her favorite was being a teacher's aid to the kindergartners at Roosevelt Elementary. Working well into her 80's, she taught at-risk children that they were loved.
Marilyn had two great spiritual gifts. The first came in the form of writing. She penned hundreds of letters and poems to her family. The second is an accepting and loving demeanor where others would pour out their souls to her. Whether it was a passing salesman, someone in the parking lot at Dan's or even a homeless individual in New York City, strangers and acquaintances would stay for hours sharing life stories and shedding tears - they never wanted to leave.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Karl, grandson Jason Remy and sisters Jo Schlueter and Carol Hunsaker. She is survived by her children, sister June Heath and 13 grandchildren and 17 (and counting) great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday October 2nd at 10:30 A.M. at the LDS Chapel at 1925 East Gunderson Lane in Holladay. Friends may gather one hour prior to meet with family. Interment will take place at Elysian Burial Gardens in Murray. Services coordinated by Wiscombe Memorial.
