Actor. Born Robert Andrew Wass, he was best known to British television viewers as Albert Dingle on the soap opera "Emmerdale" from 1995 to 2004. He started out as a singer, but turned to being a stand-up comedian. He became widely known on television and this allowed him to go beyond being a stand-up comedian. His first television appearance was on the series "Play for Today" in 1977. Besides "Emmerdale", he would go on to appear on such television series as "Marti", "Coronation Street", "How We Used to Live", "Earthfasts", "Three Seven Eleven", "Heartbeat", and "Benidorm". He was still on the series "Benidorm" when he passed away after suffering a major heart attack.
