Walt was born on Jan. 24, 1926 in Tolono, the son of Walter and Ida Schroeder. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; sister, Dottie; wife, Dorothy Mae (Moore) Schroeder and a son.
He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Clark of Ogden, Diane Schaub of Fisher and Denise (Mark) Dalton of Mahomet; six grandchildren, Jenn (Justin) Burleson of Aurora, Colo.rado, Erin Clark of Ogden, Nate (Brittany) Schaub of Fisher, Brett (Kevin) Fulks of Normal, Matt (Ashley Neef) Schaub of Fisher and Chris Clark of Royal and five great-grandchildren.
He was proud to have served his country in World War II in the 99th Infantry Division. He retired from the University of Illinois Housing Division in 1982.
He was a Cubs fan and loved to tell a story.
