Son of the composer John Barnett, Domenico was named after his Godfather, the great classical bassist Domenico Dragonetti (musical partner of Domenico's reknowned cellist Grandfather Robert Lindley).

Domenico was also a musician, and worked for many years as a piano teacher at Cheltenham Ladies College. He was also a gifted amateur artist, specialising in watercolours.
