Dorothy Helen Bell, (nee Krug), age 100, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Alden Courts of Shorewood.

Born March 31, 1917 in the German community of Russell, KS, she was the daughter of German immigrants, Henry and Katherine (Schaadt) Krug, Jr.

Dorothy joyfully celebrated her 100th birthday this past March with a party in her honor attended by five generations of her extended family and many friends from throughout the country.

Dorothy married James R. Bell in 1937, and due to his work as a welder and construction foreman, they lived in 15 different states, as well as Papua, New Guinea in the Solomon Islands.

She moved to Illinois in 1976, and resided in Joliet, Minooka and Shorewood. She was employed by the former Wieboldt’s Department Store and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.

Dorothy was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed bowling, watching TV and playing various card and board games.

Surviving are her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Ron Tucker of Shorewood, her loving son, Jerry Bell of Weed, California; her beloved grandchildren, Parker (Rhonda) Tucker of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tracey (Jonathan) Levine of Nashville, TN, Paige (Phil) Daniels of Shorewood, Corey (Sarah) Tucker of Sacramento, California, Leslie (Matt) Bonneau of Sacramento, CA, Dr. Jason Bell of Portland, OR, Kjerstin (Theodore) Hatch of Mill Valley, CA, Erika (Francis) Devlin of Carlsbad, CA, and Curtis (Gina) Roen of Stevenson Ranch, CA; 16 dear great-grandchildren; and a precious great-great grandson.

Dorothy was preceded in death by a fond daughter-in-law, Rosemarie Bell; her husband, James R. Bell; her parents; and all five of her siblings.
