OBITUARY OF HANS P. LARSON

Hans Paul LARSON, prominent cattleman and rancher of the Elk river section, passed away suddenly Thursday, December 31, while he was engaged in feeding cattle. In the absence of the hired man, Mrs. LARSON accompanied him to the field and was driving the team while Mr. LARSON threw the hay off the sled. She noticed that he fell forward. Cause of death was a heart attack. He had not complained of feeling ill previous to the attack.

Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in Steamboat Springs Sunday afternoon with Rev. B. H. Christner in charge. In his comforting sermon he spoke of Abraham as a pioneer and the pioneering of yesterday. Miss Rachel Wood sang "Face to Face," "Some Day the Silver Cord," and "God Be With You Till We Meet Again." Mrs. Christner played the piano accompaniment . The pallbearers were D. L. HARMON, J. H. BURROUGHS, Lee TAYLOR, Sam NAY, Bennett SAVAGE and Elmer DRAKE. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs cemetery. A. W. Heyer was funeral director. There was a large attendance of friends from all parts of the country. The floral tributes were profuse and lovely.

Mr. LARSON is survived by his wife; three sons, Stanley of Denver, Theodore of Oak Creek and Malcolm of Hugo, Colorado; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma REHDER and Mrs. Inez McDERMOTT of Steamboat Springs; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth HOFFLAND of Sunrise, Wyoming, Mrs. Anna LOFQUIST of Stanwood, Washington, and Mrs. Lena BERGSTROM of Tillamook, Oregon. All of the children were in Steamboat Springs for the funeral.

Hans Paul LARSON was born in Sweden, September 03, 1863. When 19 years of age he came to the United States of America, going to Orion, Illinois, remaining there one year. The next year he spent in Madison, Nebraska, going from there to Holyoke, Colorado, where he took up a tree claim. In a short time he sold the claim and went to Antioch, Nebraska, as a homesteader. Here he developed a large cattle ranch.

On July 25, 1898, he was married to Maude Inez JESSE at Alliance, Nebraska. Their home was at Antioch until 1915, when they came to Routt county, locating in the Elk River valley which has since been their home.

Mr. LARSON was a successful rancher and cattleman. He liked the cattle business and could not make up his mind to retire, tho the matter had been discussed at intervals. He was a good citizen, interested in the affairs of his country and community, a good neighbor and friend. His children were given a good education and have achieved success in their various fields of business and profession. The sudden passing of H. P. LARSON was a shock to his family and friends and his absence will leave a void in the community.
