Lawrence is the son of Mahlon Wickwire Beach and Lillian Brand. He was married to Stella Summers in the year 1932, in Ontario, Canada.

Laurence joined the RCAF and early in 1942 was stationed in England [Leading Aircraftman, R/53101]. On a transport flight from England to India, on September 24, 1944, the plane, off course, was shot down over Germany.

The 23 occupants of the plane were killed and buried at Neu Leigen. After hostilities ceased, they were moved to the permanent British Military Cemetery at Rheinberg,Germany.
