Doris Steinback went home to be with her heavenly father on October 4, 2017. She passed away at St Francis Hospital in Federal Way, Washington. Her family takes comfort that she has joined her father, mother, brother, and two sisters in eternity. She died from complications resulting in her kidneys failing. Doris was born on January 3, 1933 to parents Willis Coleman Ellicott and Mildred Oliver (Thornberry) Ellicott in Rochester, New York. She graduated in 1951 from West High School in Rochester, New York.

At 19 years old she took a trip of a lifetime to Bermuda where she met the love of her life, Neil Steinback, who walked up to her while she was in line to see a movie and told her "I'm going to marry you." Doris married Neil on July 26, 1953 at Genesee Baptist Church in Rochester, New York. They spent their honeymoon on a road trip to Larson Air Force Base, Moses Lake, Washington. The first of three joys in her life was the birth of their daughter, Debbie, who was born in 1955. Doris and her family then moved to other military assignments including Grenier AFB Manchester, New Hamshire and McGuire AFB Burlington Country, New Jersey. She and her family then moved overseas to Laon AFB in Laon, France.

Doris was then blessed with two more daughters, Tina and April, while living in France. The military then moved her family to Castle AFB Atwate, California, and then to Portland International AFB, Portland, Oregon. It was when Neil was assigned to serve in Viet Nam that she took her girls to Rochester, New York while she worried and waited for him to return home. After Neil returned home from a one year assignment in the war torn country, the military assigned them to the McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. In 1969 she and her family moved to their current home in Federal Way, Washington where she spent the rest of her life being the most wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmothe, and homemaker.

Doris had many hobbies that including gardening, sewing, ceramics, and bowling. She loved to travel, camp, and was an avid rock hound. You can see many of her treasures and finds of rock samples in and around her home. She volunteered as an assistant Girl Scout leader, PTA, clown for children's events, and her greatest passion, volunteering at the King County Library. Her career positions included working as a bank teller, Taylor Clocks, Weyerhaeuser, and her favorite job was working at the King County Library. Doris had a love for knowledge and books which she spent most of her free time reading. She was brilliant. No one would ever want to challenge her to a game of trivia or even how to correctly spell a word. She leaves behind a legacy of a warm and happy home filled with wonderful holidays, smells of great food, and happy memories.

Doris is survived by her love of her life, Neil, who together cherished 64 years of marriage; daughters, Debbie Calhoun (Lonnie), Tina Phillips (Clint), April Hurlbert (Randy); grandchildren, Robert (Jenine) and Karl (Charina) Hurlbert, Dennis (Tiffany) Phillips, Michelle (Greg) Mooney; great-grandchildren, Alyssa Mooney, Kalina and Kayden Hurlbert, and Katherine Hurlbert.

A private family gathering will be held Saturday Morning, October 14, at her graveside interment. Family and friends are invited to attend the reception being held at the family home on October 14 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM.
