Obituary from Deseret News (Salt Lake City, UT) - Friday, April 19, 2002:
Our wonderful father of five children, devoted Husband to our Mother and Caring Grandfather to his 16 Grandchildren passed away (April 16, 2002) in his home surrounded by those who loved him.

Dad, who went by his middle name Dahl, was born August 24, 1925 in Southern Utah and raised in the little town of Antimony. He was the only boy in his family with six sisters and worked extra hard as a kid on his family's cattle ranch. As a young man Dad was known for his strength and excelled in sports in High School playing Football, Boxing, and throwing the Discus and Shot-put.
During that time, due to his exceptional strength, he took first place in the State in the Senior Division Shot-put Long Distance throw. But Dad was best known for his good looks, his charismatic personality and his God given Golden Voice. He was continually called upon to sing at Church and Community functions throughout Utah.

Dad graduated from Richfield High School in 1943 and enrolled at USAC - Utah State Agriculture College in Logan.
He later joined the Navy Air Corps and went into active service July 1, 1944 spending two years in the South Pacific principally on the Island of Tinian. After an Honorable discharge he enrolled in BAC - Branch Agriculture College in Cedar City.
While a student there he was the Sports Announcer for a Radio Show based in Cedar City and was elected Campus "Man of the Hour". He graduated in the spring of 1948.

Dad was called as an LDS Missionary to the Southern States Mission in July of 1948. During his mission he was recognized Church wide in an issue of the "Improvement Era" Magazine as being an exceptional Missionary. In addition to his proselytizing Dad was called upon to sing continually. He was also called by his Mission President, President Choules of Driggs Idaho, to be his Second Counselor. At the time when he was Set Apart to that position he was also Ordained to the office of a Seventy in the Melchizedek Priesthood, the setting apart and the Ordination both were performed by Elder Henry D. Moyle, who was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Dad's Mission President would often say Elder Gleave was to him as Aaron was to Moses, referring to Dad as his mouthpiece because of his beautiful voice. At the request of his Mission President Dad's mission was extended six months and he was released in December 1950 after serving a two and a half year mission.

In September of 1951, Dad went to Hollywood to pursue a career as a singer. During that time he appeared and sang on many television shows such as The Marie Wilson Show, The Zsa Zsa Gabor Show and The Betty White Show. He also worked with many other famous entertainers.
During his early show business days in California he continued his Church work as a Sunday School Teacher, regularly singing at Church firesides and helped in the foundation construction work of the Los Angeles Temple.

In April of 1953 he joined the four man singing group, "The Continentals". They toured the United States, cut records, and even had a Las Vegas nightclub act with Ronald Reagan. In August of 1953 Dad married our Mother, Doris Yeager, a beauty from Texas whom Dad would later tell that he never could have loved another woman on earth as much as he loved her. Dad left the Entertainment Business in May of 1957 and became the Supervisor of all the Vic Tanny Health and Fitness Gyms in the Los Angeles area. In the summer of 1963 Dad left the Health Club business and began a prosperous career in Real Estate wherein he became a principle owner of "Pre Builder Land Corporation" based in Beverly Hill, California. Years later in August of 1977 till the present he moved his family to the Provo/Orem area where he remained semi-active in the Real Estate Business.

Dad was a great provider for us kids growing up. We never went without and we greatly enjoyed the many outings and trips he took us on.
As we grew and had families of our own Dad would always go the extra mile during special occasions for his kids, their spouses and his Grandkids. He would do the cooking for the big family get together dinners at Christmas and Easter. These times were family reunion annual highlights. No one could make a Pork Roast, Prime Rib, Gravy or Potato Salad as good as Dads.

His kids and Grandkids also enjoyed the summer picnics in the Mountains along with going to Seven Peaks Water Park every year. Also, Mom and especially Dad would always make sure the Grandkids birthdays were never forgotten. But the biggest highlight of every year was during Christmas time when the whole family would meet at Mom and Dads. After dinner we would all gather in their living room and would open gifts from one another. No matter what gifts Dad got from us when he opened them up in front of the whole group he would always make a big deal out of what he received. It didn't matter what you gave Dad; you always felt that you gave him something that he just couldn't live without. Well, most of the time anyway.

Our wonderful and Courageous Father was overcome by cancer and is now embarking on his next Mission in the Spirit World.
We are all deeply saddened of Dads passing but we're happy to know that he has been embraced by his awaiting Parents and loved ones who have passed on before him. And we are also grateful for the belief that Dads beautiful voice will be heard again along with the Heavenly Choirs above.

A heartfelt thanks to Kevin Visker with Harmony Hospice, our Aunt Garlene Maberry and our Sister Tammy Gleave Milovich who all gave so much of themselves in minimizing Dad's and Mother's anguish at this heartbreaking time.

Our dear Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Lora Gleave, and four sisters, Ione Gleave Smoot, June Gleave Neath, Adrene Gleave Dean, and Reine Gleave Anderson. He is survived by his sisters, Coy Gleave Burr and Billie Gleave Allen.

Dad also leaves behind our dear Mother, his loving wife and Companion of 48 years, who he cherished and would do anything for. And he also leaves his five children, three loving daughters and two returned missionary sons.
We love you Dad we are so blessed to have you as our Father and look forward to that joyous time when we are all reunited with you again.
Randy, Tammy, Steve, Sharon and Cristy.
