MILARDO, Frances Aleria

Frances Aleria Milardo, 104, of Otis St., Old Saybrook, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday (May 24, 2000). She was the beloved wife of the late Emanuel Milardo. She was born in Floridia, Sicily on October 12, 1895. She was the daughter of the late Sebastian and Antonia Buccheri Aleria. She emigrated to the United States via Ellis Island in 1911 and settled in Middletown. She came to Old Saybrook soon after with her husband. They owned and operated one of the first general stores in town. She was a long time parishioner of St. John's Roman Catholic Church. She is survived by a son, Edward Milardo and his wife, Joan, of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Joan Milardo of Old Saybrook and Elsie Malkin of West Covina, CA; and a brother, Sebastian (Whitey) Aleria of Middletown. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Karen Marcolini, Janice Rubino, JoAnne Bailey, Edward Marcolini, Stephanie LoCicero, Laurie Ghobrial, Peter Milardo, Bob Milardo, Jim Milardo, Valerie Malkin Hidalgo and Barry Malkin; nine great-grandchildren; the loving spouses of her grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Frederick Milardo and two daughters, Josephine M. Marcolini and Valerie Milardo. The funeral procession will leave the Swan Funeral Home, 1224 Boston Post Rd., Old Saybrook, Friday, June 2, at 10:45 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. John's Church, Old Saybrook. Friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday, June 1, 5-7 p.m. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. In honor of Frances Milardo, the pallbearers will be Edward Marcolini, Robert Milardo, Peter Milardo, Richard Rubino, David Tiezzi, and Philip M. Appell. The honorary pallbearers will be Sebastian (Whitey) Aleria, Victor Milardo, Fred Milardo, Joseph Greco, and Louis Luberti. Donations in her memory may be made to the Josephine M. Marcolini Memorial School Award Fund, c/o 41 Obed Heights, Old Saybrook, CT, 06475.
