Herschel Doyle Sparks, 85, of Eufaula passed away on October 11, 2017 at the Eufaula Manor Nursing Home. Herschel was born on September 18, 1932 in Hanna, Oklahoma to Doyle and Mae (Nichols) Sparks.

He graduated from Hanna High School in 1950. On July 2, 1957, he married Marjorie Yandell in Oklmulgee, Oklahoma. They were happily married for over sixty years. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education from Northeastern State University in 1964. In 1970, Herschel received his Master's Degree in Social Work MSLSW from the University of Oklahoma. He worked as a social worker for DHS, Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring from the Veterans Administration in 1997. Herschel also worked for Byington Motors. He was a member of the Vivian Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Marjorie Sparks, of the home; sons: Mikel Sparks and wife, Tammy, of Lowell, AR; Mark Sparks, of Cleveland, OK; daughters: Marsha Moody and husband, Robert, of Edmond, OK; Melissa Ward and husband, Michael, of Edmond, OK; Marilyn Tate and husband, John, of Oklahoma City, OK; brother, Bill Sparks, of Whitefield, OK; sister, Carol Lee, of Duncan, OK; seven grandchildren: Rob Moody, Rachel Long, Elijah Tate, Caleb Tate, Noah Sparks, Adley Sparks, and Brennan Sparks; two great grandchildren: Kinley Moody and Ava Long; and Charlotte Long, due January 2018.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Doyle and Mae Sparks; two brothers: Ewell and Ben Sparks; and one sister, Betty Rommel.
