North Richland Hills - Matthew P. Mousley, 56, of North Richland Hills, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017 at a local hospital in Fort Worth after a brave struggle with kidney disease.
Matt was born Sept. 9, 1961 in Bucks County, Pa. and after graduating from high school, he served in the United States Air Force as a Digital Flight Simulator Specialist from 1978 to 1987. He was stationed at Plattsburgh AFB, N.Y. and Carswell AFB, Texas. After his United States Air Force discharge as a Staff Sgt, Matt worked at the American Airlines Flight Academy, Fort Worth, as a Flight Simulator Engineer and completed 30 years of service in March 2017. While with American Airlines, he served with the Transport Workers Union as a Shop Steward for several years.
Matt had many interests, including sky diving, scuba diving, sailing and cruising, music, aviation and was also known as a dog lover. He had several Keeshond "furry friends" over the years. His love of sailing lead to his certification as an ASA Licensed Captain, allowing him to captain sailboats on trips in the British Virgin Islands, as well as the Greek Islands. An avid reader, he absorbed books like a sponge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert W. Mousley and Vivian E. (Chance) Mousley; sisters, Fay Mousley, and Kathryn Mousley Price.
Survivors: His older brother, Gilbert J. Mousley of Houston and David Mousley of Asheville, N.C.; wife, Melissa Self Mousley of Fort Worth; children, Ronnie D. Johnson, Dustin S. Johnson, all of Fort Worth, Ashley Johnson and Tyler Firebaugh of Grandview and their children, Ember and Alexcis.
