Ralph aRusso was born in [1923] in an ancient stone-rubble mill house in Simmonsville to Domenico & Mary Russo and went on to live in Johnston his whole life. He was elected to the post of Town Administrator in 1970 and served continuously as chief executive of Johnston for the next 24 years. in 1974, his job title was changed to Mayor, and he became the first person in Johnston to fill that post. He was an extremely popular politician, and his time as chief executive is said to be the longest in state history. Mayor aRusso died in 1999 and is buried in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
