She was born in Washington, D.C., on October 6, 1951, the fifth child of Harley and Margaret (Rogers) McVicker. She married Robert B. Scroggs on September 13, 1980, in Chillicothe. Bob preceded her in death on July 14, 2004, in Surprise, AZ. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by her stepson, Robert A. Scroggs of Creve Coeur; siblings, Ellen Sikes of Marietta, GA, Keith (Susie) McVicker of Chicago, Annie (Richard) Rogers of Vero Beach, FL, and John (Diane) McVicker of Alexandria, VA; nephews, Chris (Karen) Sikes of Chesapeake, VA, and Robert Sikes of Jacksonville, FL; and nieces, Laney McVicker of Denver, CO, and Brandee (Ricky) Zambrano of Thomasville, GA.
She received her Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting from James Madison University in Harrisonberg, VA. She worked as an accountant for Caterpillar in downtown Peoria. She was most recently a motivational speaker for A New Beginning. Mary won the Heartland Heroes Award in 2008.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 22, 2017, at Clary Funeral Home, 3004 West Lake Avenue in Peoria. There will be no visitation.
