Arthur L. "Art" Greene, passed away early Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 2004, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City, after a short illness. He was the retired associate director of the Louisiana School Boards Association. He was 84, born in Gulfport, Miss., on April 20, 1920. He spent his youth in Oakdale and graduated from Oakdale High School in 1938. He was a graduate of LSU, where he received a degree in journalism in 1942. He began his career with the Times Picayune, then found radio as his calling for a number of years. He became an announcer (disc jockey) and manager for several stations in east Texas before becoming an owner/operator of a small AM station in Mansfield. While in Mansfield, he tried his hand in politics and was elected mayor there in 1962. Upon moving to Baton Rouge in 1966, he became associated with the Louisiana School Boards Association, where he retired in 1989. His loves in life were his wife of 62 years, Clarite, reading and writing and the LSU Tigers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarite Corley Greene; and daughter, Diane Greene. He is survived by a daughter, Missy Love and her husband, Don, of Orlando, Fla.; son, Mickey Greene and his wife, Alexandra, of Phoenix; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Gloria O'Keefe of Aurora, Colo., and Merle Gould of Lake Charles. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, until memorial service at 11 a.m, conducted by John Goodwin, Ph.D., of Broadmoor Baptist Church.
