D.E. GARDNER JR.

Funeral services for David E. Gardner Jr., 64, for many years a Portsmouth contractor and civic leader, were held this morning at Daehler Funeral Home.

Two ministers of Bigelow Methodist Church of which Mr. Gardner was a member and former trustee, officiated. They were Rev. Dr. J. Carl Plummer, present pastor, and Rev. Dr. Donald Timerman, former pastor now in Columbus.

Burial was to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery at Columbus.

Pallbearers were James Breece of New Albany, Ind.; James H. McElhaney of Columbus, and William Anderson, Atty. William H. Horr, Atty. Robert K. McCurdy and Charles S. Baker, all of Portsmouth.

Mr. Gardner, head of Gardner Construction Co. at Columbus and Newark, Ohio, died unexpectedly Sunday morning in a Columbus hospital. He resided in Portsmouth from 1903 until he moved to Newark in 1942.
