Russell E. Abbott Jr., 61, U.S. Army veteran, passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017, at the Southern Nevada VA Medical Center, with his wife and children by his side, after a brief illness. Russell was born June 7, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, and called Las Vegas his home since 1990 after his Army service as a Military Police Officer. He retired from the Transportation Security Administration and enjoyed watching old westerns, anything about Elvis Presley and talking guns. Russell was preceded in death by parents, Russell E. Abbott Sr. and Joann (Young) Abbott; his brother, Michael Abbott; and his sister, Debra Abbott, all of Des Moines, Iowa. Russell will be endearingly missed by his wife, of 18 years, Jean Wallander-Abbott; his children, Jarred and Amber Abbott; his stepdaughter, Lisa, and her children, Madison and Gavin; and his many relatives in Iowa. Russell's humor and generosity will be remembered by his family and all whose lives he has touched. A celebration of his life will be planned at a later date, contact his children for further information. Burial will be at 12:40 p.m. Monday, November 13, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City.
