Kristina Marie Matthias of Thornton, Colorado, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2016 with her family at her side. She was affectionately known to her family as Kris, but friends knew her as Kristy.
Kristina was born March 30, 1975 in Phoenix, AZ to William and Constance Smith of Phoenix, AZ. Growing up in a military family; she developed a love for meeting and helping new people.
She graduated from Alhambra High School in Phoenix, AZ. After high school, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ottawa University also located in Phoenix, AZ.
Kristina and Daniel were introduced in 1992 and were married in 1996. They resided in Peoria, AZ, until they moved to Thornton, CO in 2002.
A devoted and beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, she loved to spend her time as an avid advocate for children and community outreach causes. She led several fundraising drives to support children in need, military families, and the pet community. She was very active in her children’s academics and hockey interests.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel Matthias of Thornton, CO, her children, Julie and Andrew Matthias of Thornton, CO; her mother, Constance Smith from Sharon PA; her siblings and spouses: Carrie and Michael Kuntz of Phoenix, AZ, William Smith Jr, and Tabitha Smith of Beckley, West Virginia; her nieces, Koa and Madison; nephews, Kai and Jacob; her in-laws William and Angela Matthias of Littleton, CO and brother and sister in law, Jack and Kimberly Matthias of Missoula, MN.
A memorial service for Kristy will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 10 AM at the Lords of Life Lutheran Church, 12021 Northaven Circle, Thornton, CO.
