Colquit was the s/o James Newport Ellis and Lillie Mae Stephens Ellis. He was the youngest of 4 boys and was exactly 2 weeks old when his Father was killed. Over those early years the older brothers always kept an eye on Colquit and at times lead him into mischief.

When Lillie Mae moved to Dalton, the 4 boys were taken to North Dalton School. Their education had been in a one room school house in Eton, Ga and Miss Vera Deck, the starting grades teacher met them and assigned them to grades..My Father and Colquit were to remain in her class. Miss Deck, in 1947, was also my first grade teacher and in 1982 -at age 91- was my Father's next door neighbor. She told me of their early years and how "beautiful" Colquit was and how smart.

In his teens, he and a couple of brothers ran moonshine out of Murray county to NC.. more mischief.
After he and Floy married he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and my earlist memories of him were around the MS
which progressed tragically until his death in 1961.

He and Floy had no children.
