Michael E. Cordier, 32, beloved son of Ronald J. and Katherine (McQuiggan) Cordier, of Robin Way, Westerly, RI, died Thursday, (February 20, 2003) a victim of the fire at The Station, in West Warwick, RI, while he was working a promotion for his employer, McGlaughlin and Moran, where he was employed as a merchandiser. He was born October 9, 1971, in Hartford. He was a graduate of Westerly High School, with the Class of 1989, where he played soccer and baseball. He was an avid fisherman, loved sports, especially hockey and softball. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He put others before himself. He loved animals and enjoyed helping young children as well as older children and adults. He always stood by his family, during times of crisis. In addition to his parents in Westerly, he also leaves a brother, Jonathon L. Cordier of Quincy, MA; his paternal grandparents, Leo and Marion Cordier of East Hartford; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his girlfriend, Nicole Dorcas of Westerly; and many, many friends. Calling hours will be TODAY, 5-8 p.m. in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly, RI. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Clare's Church, Misquamicut, Friday, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in River Bend Cemetery, Westerly, RI.
Published in The Hartford Courant on Feb. 27, 2003Mike Cordier, 32, was not a fan of Great White -- he was only at The Station on Feb. 20 because he was a Budweiser promoter, and a co-worker who would have normally completed the shift needed the night off.

"That was the kind of guy he was, a really loyal friend," said John Herlihy, who met Cordier in junior high playing in a neighborhood football game.

What Cordier did love: the Three Stooges. He could do dead-on impressions of Larry, Curly, and Moe -- complete with the fake punches and "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk," noises, Herlihy said. "He was always making everyone laugh."

Cordier, a promoter for McLaughlin & Moran, a local Budweiser distributor, was born in Hartford and moved to Westerly, R.I., with his family during junior high. Last year, he moved closer to work, to North Kingstown. He lived with his girlfriend of several years, Nicole Dorcas.

He loved to fish, and could be found at the ocean or on Quonochontaug Pond.

"He got me into fishing when we were in junior high," Herlihy said. "I'd never done it before, but he made it sound so fun. . . . We'd been fishing together ever since."
