Curtis Browning

Curtis John Browning, 75, died on October 25, 2017 from cancer. He passed away with loving family members at his side in his home in Ogden, Utah. Curtis was born on January 5, 1942 in the city of Bell, California to Curtis and Fay (Thompson) Browning.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Curtis attended Bell Gardens High School in California, graduating in 1959. As a young man, he joined the Air Force in 1961 where he was stationed at McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, WA. He was later awarded an Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and released from active duty in 1965 with an Honorable Discharge.

Curtis was married to Ardith Gayle Browning (Gaw) on December 17, 1965 in the Los Angeles, California LDS Temple.

He worked for Thom McAn Shoes as well as Winchell’s Donut Shop, but he found his true calling in 1969 when he began work for the United States Postal Service. He started in Victorville, CA before transferring to Ogden, UT. He was a dedicated and hard-working employee, retiring after 34 years of service in 2003.

Curtis enjoyed raising farm animals - cows, goats, rabbits, and chickens - in both California and Utah. He was passionate about gardening, diligently tended to his lawn, and he also liked old Western movies.

Curtis is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gayle; sons; Christopher, Jared, Benjamin, and Jacob; daughter, Elizabeth; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Loretta, and twin sisters, Ella and Della.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2017, at the LDS Church on 300 Gramercy Ave, Ogden. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park with military honors accorded.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the caregivers from Ashby Home Health & Hospice with a special thanks to Charyol Wilcox, R.N. Special appreciation also goes to the many loyal friends and neighbors who devoted their time and energy.

Oh, my pa-pa, so funny, so adorable
Always the clown, so funny in his way
Oh, my pa-pa, to me he was so wonderful
Deep in my heart I miss him so today.
