Charles William Alderson was born in 1846 to Christopher Alderson of Union, Monroe, Virginia and Mary (Polly) Perry Gibson of Russell County, Virginia.

Charles married Sarah (Sallie) Florence Edmondson on September 3, 1867 in Washington County, Virginia. The couple had four children -- Joseph Davis Alderson (1869-1943), Andrew (1870-), Mattie (1877-) and Henry F. Alderson (1883-1930).

After Charles' first wife, Sallie, died around 1902-1903, he remarried to a widow, Mrs. Sue V. Chambers, in 1904. His
son, Joseph Davis Anderson, was listed as informant on the death certificate for Charles William Alderson, which indicates he was a magistrate and notary public by profession and also that he was buried in Alderson Cemetery.
