Maurie Lee Flowers Carpenter, age 80, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 in Pearland, TX. She was born in Jefferson, TX on February 2, 1937 to Maurice and Lula (Goss) Flowers.

She graduated valedictorian of her Central High School class in 1955, then completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Prairie View A&M University in 1959. Upon completion of her Master's degree from the University of North Texas, she went on to have a successful career as an educator. She retired from Waltrip High School after 41 years of teaching and mentoring.

She married Eddie Ray Carpenter on August 5, 1967 in Tulsa, OK, and enjoyed 50 years of marriage. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend who had the most generous and encouraging spirit.

She was a life member for over 50 years to Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated. She also was a dedicted member of the Top Ladies of Distinction, National Association of University Women and Brentwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie R.Carpenter; brother, John (Maxine) flowers; nieces, Monica Flowers and Pam (Allen) Lawrence, and Cheryel Carpenter; nephew John (Miriam) Flowers.

Her celebration of life service will be held at Brentwood Baptist Church, 13033 Landmark Street in Houston, TX, on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM. Viewing will immediately precede the services at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Jefferson, TX on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Cedar Grove Cemetery at 12:00 PM.
