Gene started out in radio in Oregon for station KXL in Portland. He was announcer for the radio show, "Lum and Abner" for years and was deejay for KHJ in Los Angeles, did stints for many others as well as interviewing many celebrities. He was best known for being the announcer for the long running television show in the 1950's and 60's, "Queen For A Day." In 1956 he was made Honorary Mayor of Granada Hills, Calif. He had a beautiful baritone voice and sang gospel music for the Columbian Symphony Orchestra in New York and cut many 78, 33-1/3 rpm records as well as tapes. Gene's 1st wife was Mary Etta Winder and 2nd, Nancy Keith Houston.
