Frederick Esman Abney was born on valentines in 1919. He played many musical instruments by ear especially the guitar and banjo. He was fond of bluegrass music and performed mostly in church. He married Medie Lou Reed sometime in the 1930s and fathered 6 children with her (Donald, Barbara, Jesse, Mabel, Jonita, and Pamela). After his divorce from Medie in the early 1960s he moved from place to place until he final settled down in the Pineridge area of Winchester. He lived off the land in that small house in the woods, for about 20 years or so. His life was peaceful without the complications of modern life, which is the way he was brought up, and the way he wanted it. If he needed for anything he could always find it at Goffs Corner market. He had many adventures throughout his life and we wish that we had kept record of the many stories he told. His decline in health the last year of his life forced him to move to town (Winchester) where his loved ones were better able to tend to him. He left us to be with the Lord in August of 1995. Proud of his Native American heritage he is listed as such on his death certificate.
