CELEBRATION TO HIGHLIGHT BIRTHDAY AND ANNIVERSARY

Vernal resident Les Thacker arrived in Vernal in 1917 looking for "a wife and a place to make a home." In the years since that time, he has been a successful businessman, family man, civic servant and church member.

At the age of 77, he bagan writing poems which along with his life story and a number of pictures, have been collected in a book form. The book captures highlights in the story of his life.

Orphaned at the age of five, Les lived in the homes of several relatives before moving to the Vernal area. Hard work has been normal activity for the man--even following his retirement, he busied himself with projects which were given away to friends and family. One of those projects included construction of carts to hold garbage cans. The carts, complete with wheels, allowed older people within the community to safely carry their garbage to the curb for pick up.

The family of Les Thacker will host a celebration in honor of his ninety-first birthday and the sixty-seventh anniversary of the wedding of he and his wife, Stella, on September 9 at their home in Vernal.
