After his military service, Bernie married Tena on June 10, 1968. The couple lived in Lennox, Hayti, and South Shore. Bernie loved tinkering with projects, restoring several cars. He held jobs in multiple areas, and could be considered a jack of all trades.
Bernie and Dixie (Anderson) were united in marriage on December 5, 1992 in Clear Lake. He is lovingly remembered by his family for his love of dogs and being outdoors. Bernie was a hunter, a fisherman, and enjoyed camping trips with his family. On many occasions, Bernie would be found over a campfire cooking a meal for the group.
Bernie is survived by his wife Dixie Stone of Clear Lake; seven children: Robert Stone of Milbank, Kenneth (Deborah) Stone of Sioux Falls, Bernard Jr. (Rebecca) Stone of Hartford, Tammy (Marlin) Snell of Milbank, Jerod (Christina) Moyer of Chester, Kristopher (Kristen) Moyer of Clear Lake, and Leah (Troy) Moyer of Sioux Falls; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister Juanita (Dean) Thorstenson of Waukon, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Elsie; sisters: Betty (Jim) Gann and Vivian Buenzow; and first wife Tena.
