Stuart, Fla. - Anne Abele Meyer, born Sept. 15, 1921 in Wellston, Ohio, died in her sleep on Nov. 1, 2017 in Stuart, Fla.
She is survived by her five children (Joseph, William, Joanne, Margaret and Laura), four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Meyer (1920-2002).
She was the longest surviving of the six children born to Oscar Abele and Margaret (Burke) Abele of Wellston, Ohio.
Anne and Joe raised their family in Rockville Centre, N.Y., and moved to Stuart, Fla., in 1977.
They were members of the Stuart Yacht and Country Club. Summers were spent in New York (Glen Cove and Port Ewen), where they were members of the North Hills Country Club in Manhasset and then the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston.
Anne was an avid and accomplished bridge player and a dedicated golfer with a wide and deep network of friends.
Anne’s first husband, Ralph Davis of the U.S. Army Air Corps, was killed in 1942 after only three months of marriage.
She married Joe Meyer in 1944 and they raised their family on Long Island, running the family business, Richelieu Pearls.
Active members of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), they traveled and studied widely.
Anne also continued her studies at Adelphi College and Hofstra University on Long Island.
No service will be held.
Her ashes will be interred with Joe’s on family land in New York.
