Pastor Emeritus Rev. Sheldon T. Twenge, age 59, Dean of Martin Luther Institute of Sacred Studies of the Lutheran Churches of the Reformation, died on March 19.

Funeral services for Pastor Twenge were held yesterday (Monday) at Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Decatur, Indiana.

Pastor Twenge died at his residence after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born on March 1, 1939, in Graceville, to Sigwald Theodore Twenge and Berdella Mabel Strand. He was married to Myrtle Bass on June 27, 1964, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Pastor Twenge was a 1957 graduate of Dr. Martin Luther College, a 1962 graduate of Northwestern, and a 1966 graduate of the Martin Luther Institute of Sacred Studies.

Pastor Twenge was a clergy member of the Lutheran Churches of the Reformation from 1967-1998, serving as Pastor at the following congregations: Redeemer Lutheran Church of the Reformation at Terre Haute, IN from 1967-1971; Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Minneapolis from 1971-1982; St. Paul Lutheran Church at Moose Lake from 1971-1982; Gethsemane Lutheran Church at North Sioux City, SD from 1982-1990; Redeemer Lutheran Church at West Point, NE from 1982-1990; and Beautiful Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church at Decatur, IN from 1990-1998.

Pastor Twenge is survived by wife Myrtle; stepfather and mother Donald and Berdella Jost of Morris; son Dan Scofield Twenge of Fort Wayne, IN; five daughters, Mrs. Aaron (Deborah) Johnson of Rapid City, SD, Mrs. Michael (DeAnne) Ferris of Minneapolis, Mrs. Richard (Suzanne) Martin of Chico, CA, Mrs. Timothy (Amelia) Pederson of Denver, CO, and Sarah Twenge at home; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard (Judelle) Bull of St. Cloud and Rebecca Roberts of Denver, CO; two brothers, Duane of Kansas City, MO, and Dennis of Spokane, WA; two step-brothers, Ken Jost and Joe Jost of Morris; and nine grandchildren.

Pastor Twenge was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin Martin; one step-brother, Richard Jost; and one step-sister, LouAnn Jost.

Pastor Kenneth K. Miller officiated at the services. Burial was in Tocsin Cemetery.
