Tampa, FL - Michael "Mike" Gavan Taylor 50, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Tampa, FL after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born May 24, 1967 in Queens, NY to Ida Lelia Blanding Taylor and the late Joseph Taylor. He was the beloved husband of Nydia Raquel Taylor of Tampa, FL.
Michael grew up in Queens, NY. After high school he began what would be a lifelong journey as a public servant, starting with his joining the United States Marine Corps. After his time with the USMC he later moved to Sumter, SC where he worked as a Lieutenant at Turbeville Correctional Institution for several years. He went on to become a federal agent with the Department of Homeland Security where he served as a Sr. Special Agent in Columbia, SC. In 2017 he transferred to the Tampa, FL office of HSI. Michael met his soulmate in 2011 and on June 10, 2013 married Nydia in Tampa, Florida. They were happily married many years enduring a long distance marriage with frequent visits between the two states until 2017 when Michael was granted a transfer to Tampa. Michael was a loving devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Michael had a smile that could light up any room. He was a man who cherished life and led by the example of not just existing but living. His hobbies included fishing, whether from a pond in his father's backyard, or in the middle of the ocean off the side of a friend's boat, playing his trumpet or as some family members would say learning to play the trumpet, going for long peaceful bike rides on his motorcycle with a seat reserved just for his wife; spending time at the gun range; and most importantly spending time with family hosting cookouts, birthday parties and holiday dinners.
Michael was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Taylor; and his son: Joseph Gavan Taylor.
In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include his children: Ronald J. Davis of Sumter, SC, Nakia I. (Quentin) Patrick of Tampa, FL, Jonathan Taylor of Tampa, FL, Natally Vega and Mathias Martinez of the home; grandchildren: Dayvion Patrick, Jordyn Patrick, Myah Cadence Taylor, Juliana Skylar Taylor and Emmanuel; brothers: Richard Anthony Taylor of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cornel of Cary, North Carolina and Emmanuel Timothy Taylor of Sumter, SC; and his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives.
Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 6 PM - 8 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614. As a man who revered family, whether Blood, Military or Law Enforcement; Who devoted his life to protecting his parents, siblings, wife & children; how appropriately fitting that on the birthday of the U.S. Marines, surrounded by loving family, Veteran Marine & Homeland Security Senior Special Agent Michael Gavan Taylor "Stood His Last Post of Duty" then answered "The Call" of His Saviour and "Fell Asleep in The Lord".
Michael Gavan Taylor, 50, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. The fourth and youngest son of Joseph & Ida Blanding Taylor, Michael was born on Wednesday, May 24, 1967 at Elmhurst General Hospital, Queens, New York. Michael grew up in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York, where he was educated in the New York City School System graduating from Aviation High School, Long Island City, New York.
After High School Michael began what would become a life long journey as a Public Servant. This journey began with joining the United States Marine Corps in 1985. After his time with the U. S. Marines, Michael moved to Sumter, South Carolina where he worked for the South Carolina Department of Corrections for eleven years beginning at the Wateree Correctional Institution and ending his tenure at the Turbeville Correctional Institution where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. During Michael's time with the South Carolina Department of Correction Michael became a well-respected Officer by colleagues & inmates alike. Law Enforcement was Michael's platform of Ministry and he used every opportunity to encourage others or redirect negative behavior toward the positive. Michael shared on many occasions that the Parents or Guardians of many of the "First Time Youthful Offenders" would come back to the Turbeville Correctional Institution to thank him for the time he invested in their child who was now on the right road in life.
Michael's ultimate goal was to become a Federal Agent and he worked diligently preparing and grooming himself so that when The Lord allowed the opportunity for advancement he would be ready. The Lord blessed and in 2003 Michael was invited to join the U. S. Department of Immigration Customs Enforcement and successfully completed Federal Agent Training. After the 911 Attacks on the United States, Immigration Custom Enforcement became a part of what is now known as the U. S. Department of Homeland Security. With this evolution Michael was afforded opportunities to participate as a member of security details protecting Presidential Candidates and other dignitaries, but Michael preferred to be at home protecting and making a difference in his own backyard. As was Michael's fortune with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Michael again achieved great respect and admiration within the Department of Homeland Security and with local Law Enforcement. Michael served his country with great pride through the U. S. Department of Homeland Security in Wilmington, North Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina and finally in Tampa, Florida attaining the rank of Senior Special Agent.
Faith in God was instilled in Michael by his parents at an early age and Michael accepted The Lord as his Savior at the Corona Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Corona, New York. Michael served the Lord in all that he did and when he learned of his diagnosis he shared with his brother Emmanuel, "Well as Pop would sing, I'll will Trust in the Lord until I die." One last conversation Michael had with his brother Cornel, the question was asked, "Are you good with The Lord?" Michael's reply, "It's Well; It's Well." On Friday, November 10, 2017 after it was learned that Michael was not going to survive this "Trial of Faith" on this side of life, Cornel shared, "Could it be that The Lord allowed Michael to experience this challenge to ensure his "Calling & Election of Salvation would be Sealed" and once sealed, The Lord said, "My Son I will put you to sleep to ensure your Soul Salvation." We find comfort in this thought and even though there is great pain in this loss, we join Michael and say It's Well with our Soul; It's Well.
A Family man, Michael met his true soul-mate Nydia Raquel in 2011 and they were married on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Tampa, Florida. Nydia truly loved Michael and honored him as the awesome man he was. Not only was Nydia a blessing to Michael, but Nydia's entire family embraced Michael and loved him as if he was one of their own. Michael's South Carolina Family will never be able to thank Michael's Florida Family for taking such wonderful care of him in the final months of his life. Just knowing that Michael was surrounded by the Love & Support of his Children, Grandchildren & Nydia's family gave Michael's mother, Ida B. & his brothers great comfort. Proof that Michael & Nydia's Love was true was most evident by their long distance marriage with very frequent visits between South Carolina & Florida until Michael's agency transferred him to Tampa in February of 2017. Nydia was at Michael's side until the very end and The Lord is going to Bless her for her Love and Devotion.
Michael was a loving devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to all who had the honor to meet him. Michael had an infectious smile that would light up any room. He was a man who cherished life and led by the example of not just existing but living. His hobbies included fishing whether from a pond in his father's backyard or in the middle of the ocean off the side of a friends boat; playing his trumpet or as some family members would say learning to play the trumpet; going for long peaceful bike rides on his motorcycle with a seat reserved just for Nydia; spending time at the gun range; and most importantly spending time with his family hosting cookouts, birthday parties, and holiday dinners.

A Family man, Michael met his true soul-mate Nydia Raquel in 2011 and they were married on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Tampa, Florida. Nydia truly loved Michael and honored him as the awesome man he was. Not only was Nydia a blessing to Michael, but Nydia's entire family embraced Michael and loved him as if he was one of their own. Michael's South Carolina Family will never be able to thank Michael's Florida Family for taking such wonderful care of him in the final months of his life. Just knowing that Michael was surrounded by the Love & Support of his Children, Grandchildren & Nydia's family gave Michael's mother, Ida B. & his brothers great comfort. Proof that Michael & Nydia's Love was true was most evident by their long distance marriage with very frequent visits between South Carolina & Florida until Michael's agency transferred him to Tampa in February of 2017. Nydia was at Michael's side until the very end and The Lord is going to Bless her for her Love and Devotion.
Michael was a loving devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to all who had the honor to meet him. Michael had an infectious smile that would light up any room. He was a man who cherished life and led by the example of not just existing but living. His hobbies included fishing whether from a pond in his father's backyard or in the middle of the ocean off the side of a friends boat; playing his trumpet or as some family members would say learning to play the trumpet; going for long peaceful bike rides on his motorcycle with a seat reserved just for Nydia; spending time at the gun range; and most importantly spending time with his family hosting cookouts, birthday parties, and holiday dinners.
Michael's infectious and loving spirit will be cherished by his loving wife Nydia R. Taylor of Tampa, FL; his sons Ronald J. Davis of Sumter, SC, Airman Jonathan L. Taylor of Tampa, FL & Mathias Martinez of the home; his daughters Nakia (Quintin) Patrick of Tampa, FL & Natally Vega of the home; his grandchildren Dayvion, Jordyn, Myah, Juliana, & Emmanuel, his mother Ida B. Tampa, FL - Michael "Mike" Gavan Taylor 50, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Tampa, FL after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mike was born May 24, 1967 in Queens, NY to Ida Lelia Blanding Taylor and the late Joseph Taylor. He was the beloved husband of Nydia Raquel Taylor of Tampa, FL.
Michael grew up in Queens, NY. After high school he began what would be a lifelong journey as a public servant, starting with his joining the United States Marine Corps. After his time with the USMC he later moved to Sumter, SC where he worked as a Lieutenant at Turbeville Correctional Institution for several years. He went on to become a federal agent with the Department of Homeland Security where he served as a Sr. Special Agent in Columbia, SC. In 2017 he transferred to the Tampa, FL office of HSI. Michael met his soulmate in 2011 and on June 10, 2013 married Nydia in Tampa, Florida. They were happily married many years enduring a long distance marriage with frequent visits between the two states until 2017 when Michael was granted a transfer to Tampa. Michael was a loving devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Michael had a smile that could light up any room. He was a man who cherished life and led by the example of not just existing but living. His hobbies included fishing, whether from a pond in his father's backyard, or in the middle of the ocean off the side of a friend's boat, playing his trumpet or as some family members would say learning to play the trumpet, going for long peaceful bike rides on his motorcycle with a seat reserved just for his wife; spending time at the gun range; and most importantly spending time with family hosting cookouts, birthday parties and holiday dinners.
Michael was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Taylor; and his son: Joseph Gavan Taylor.
In addition to his mother and wife, survivors include his children: Ronald J. Davis of Sumter, SC, Nakia I. (Quentin) Patrick of Tampa, FL, Jonathan Taylor of Tampa, FL, Natally Vega and Mathias Martinez of the home; grandchildren: Dayvion Patrick, Jordyn Patrick, Myah Cadence Taylor, Juliana Skylar Taylor and Emmanuel; brothers: Richard Anthony Taylor of Lincoln, Nebraska, Cornel of Cary, North Carolina and Emmanuel Timothy Taylor of Sumter, SC; and his loving nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous other relatives.
Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 from 6 PM - 8 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614. Prayer Service followed at 7 PM at Gonzalez Funeral Home, 7209 North Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa, FL 33614. Arrangements under the direction of Gonzalez Funeral Home, Tampa, FL.

As a man who revered family, whether Blood, Military or Law Enforcement; Who devoted his life to protecting his parents, siblings, wife & children; how appropriately fitting that on the birthday of the U.S. Marines, surrounded by loving family, Veteran Marine & Homeland Security Senior Special Agent Michael Gavan Taylor "Stood His Last Post of Duty" then answered "The Call" of His Saviour and "Fell Asleep in The Lord".
Michael Gavan Taylor, 50, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. The fourth and youngest son of Joseph & Ida Blanding Taylor, Michael was born on Wednesday, May 24, 1967 at Elmhurst General Hospital, Queens, New York. Michael grew up in East Elmhurst, Queens, New York, where he was educated in the New York City School System graduating from Aviation High School, Long Island City, New York.
After High School Michael began what would become a life long journey as a Public Servant. This journey began with joining the United States Marine Corps in 1985. After his time with the U. S. Marines, Michael moved to Sumter, South Carolina where he worked for the South Carolina Department of Corrections for eleven years beginning at the Wateree Correctional Institution and ending his tenure at the Turbeville Correctional Institution where he earned the rank of Lieutenant. During Michael's time with the South Carolina Department of Correction Michael became a well-respected Officer by colleagues & inmates alike. Law Enforcement was Michael's platform of Ministry and he used every opportunity to encourage others or redirect negative behavior toward the positive. Michael shared on many occasions that the Parents or Guardians of many of the "First Time Youthful Offenders" would come back to the Turbeville Correctional Institution to thank him for the time he invested in their child who was now on the right road in life.
Michael's ultimate goal was to become a Federal Agent and he worked diligently preparing and grooming himself so that when The Lord allowed the opportunity for advancement he would be ready. The Lord blessed and in 2003 Michael was invited to join the U. S. Department of Immigration Customs Enforcement and successfully completed Federal Agent Training. After the 911 Attacks on the United States, Immigration Custom Enforcement became a part of what is now known as the U. S. Department of Homeland Security. With this evolution Michael was afforded opportunities to participate as a member of security details protecting Presidential Candidates and other dignitaries, but Michael preferred to be at home protecting and making a difference in his own backyard. As was Michael's fortune with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, Michael again achieved great respect and admiration within the Department of Homeland Security and with local Law Enforcement. Michael served his country with great pride through the U. S. Department of Homeland Security in Wilmington, North Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina and finally in Tampa, Florida attaining the rank of Senior Special Agent.
Faith in God was instilled in Michael by his parents at an early age and Michael accepted The Lord as his Savior at the Corona Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Corona, New York. Michael served the Lord in all that he did and when he learned of his diagnosis he shared with his brother Emmanuel, "Well as Pop would sing, I'll will Trust in the Lord until I die." One last conversation Michael had with his brother Cornel, the question was asked, "Are you good with The Lord?" Michael's reply, "It's Well; It's Well." On Friday, November 10, 2017 after it was learned that Michael was not going to survive this "Trial of Faith" on this side of life, Cornel shared, "Could it be that The Lord allowed Michael to experience this challenge to ensure his "Calling & Election of Salvation would be Sealed" and once sealed, The Lord said, "My Son I will put you to sleep to ensure your Soul Salvation." We find comfort in this thought and even though there is great pain in this loss, we join Michael and say It's Well with our Soul; It's Well.
