Joseph R. Abate Jr. of Woodbury, N.J., died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at Underwood Memorial Hospital in Woodbury. He was 70.

He was born in Philadelphia on May 23, 1936, to the late Joseph R. and Jennie (Piscoppio) Abate Sr. He was also the husband of Barbara (Luton) Abate, who predeceased him. Mr. Abate has lived in Woodbury, N.J., for more than a year, formerly of Plymouth Meeting and Conshohocken. He was a member of Epiphany RC Church in Plymouth Meeting and a former member of St. Philip Neri RC Church in Lafayette Hill. He worked as a refrigeration mechanic with Victory Medals of Plymouth Meeting for more than 50 years. He enjoyed sports and hunting.
He is survived by his brother, Rocco Abate, also of Woodbury, N.J., and three nephews.
His funeral Mass will be held Friday, Dec. 1, at 10:30 a.m. from the Epiphany of Our Lord RC Church, 3050 Walton and Township Line roads, Plymouth Meeting. Friends may call Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment, Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken.
