E.F. Croskey, Wife To Hold Reception

The romance of Mr. and Mrs. Everett F. Croskey, 2105 Lake Ave., who will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary this week, began when Mr. Croskey, a mail carrier met and courted one of the young ladies to whom he delivered letters.

He and the former Mary M. Phillips, both natives of Coshocton County, were married Jan. 9, 1909 by a Justice of the Peace. They celebrate their birthdays together as they were both born the same year, Mrs. Croskey on Apr 7 and her husband on Apr. 9.

Mr. Croskey was a U.S. mail carrier for 12 years and an employee of the Black River Lumber Company for six. In 1954 he retired from the American Crucible Products Company in Lorain following 24 years of service.

In 1922 the couple moved to Elyria and their present home where there is ample room, the lot 165 feet deep, for their hobbies of gardening. Mrs. Croskey loves flowers and makes the raising of gladioli her specialty. Mr. and Mrs. Croskey, who used to fish and hunt a lot, spends his time working in his vegetable garden and caring for his lawn.

Always a homemaker, Mrs. Croskey says she likes all phases of housekeeping and used to do a great deal of sewing and crocheting. She attends the Penfield Junction Baptist Church and belongs to the Baptist Missionary Society and the Lake Avenue Community Workers.

"Hard Work and devotion and care for our children," is the way they described their secret for 50 years of married life. Their children are: Leland, Elmus and Mrs. Charles Leonard of Lorain; Mrs. Charles Seeley of Welllington and Mrs. Alfred Gould of Elyria.

There are 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. .

On Sunday the couple will be honored at an open house at their home from 2-6 p.m. for the family and friends.

Ms. Croskey's sister, Elizabeth Easterday of Wellington is expected for the reception and if the weather permits her two brothers from Coshocton County may come.
