STOW -- Katherine Elizabeth McVey, "Princess Katherine". Katherine earned her angel wings on March 18, 2007 after a valiant battle with a brain stem glioma. She was surrounded by her family and friends at her home in Stow.

She was born on December 14, 1994 and attended Lakeview Elementary School in Stow, where she was a member of the Oasis class, Club USA, and sang in the school's Choir. She was a member of Girl Scouts for eight years, earning her Bronze Award in 2006 while undergoing treatment for her illness. Katherine enjoyed Soap Box Derby racing and won many awards. She was a beautiful writer of poetry. In her short twelve years, Katherine touched many lives with her strong love and compassion for others. She was a remarkable young lady who always put others first. While battling her illness, she initiated and participated in several fundraising efforts for cancer research.

She was the daughter of Wayne and Paula McVey of Stow and sister to Ian. She will be greatly missed by her grandparents, Wayne and Mildred McVey of Barberton; Chuck and Loretta Penrod of Mogadore; great-grandmother, Joanne Penrod also of Mogadore; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and friends worldwide. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ann Penrod.

Friends may call TUESDAY March 20, 3 to 9 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home, where Pomen Service will take place at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will take place at St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in North Canton, Ohio at 11a.m., with viewing one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Mogadore, Ohio.
