According to the late 1950's tombstone transcriptions Robert Allen, of South Yarra Melbourne, died 8 July 1878 on board the S.S. Rotorua at Russell aged 28 years. The Anglican Sexton's list has him at Block D 357. The St Pauls register says that Robert Allen was 26 years old, confirms the Melbourne and S.S. Rotorua details and has him buried 10 July 1878.

According to the Anglican Burial records, Robert Allen of Melbourne was buried 10 July 1878, aged 26 years. He died aboard the SS Rotorua. The funeral service was performed by Anglican minister Nelson. Anglican archives reference no. – 107/148.
