Don R. Hefner, 91 of LaCrosse, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, Monday, November 13, 2017. He was born February 12, 1926 in Hamlet to Elmo and Margaret (Bragg) Hefner. Don graduated from Kouts High School in 1945. After working a few years at Heinold Elevator in Kouts, he was a lifelong farmer, milking cows as a young man. Throughout his life he was a 4-H leader for 20 years and an active member of the LaCrosse United Methodist Church. Later in life he enjoyed farm auctions, buying machinery for Polk Equipment, but most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. On October 26, 1947 in Kouts, Don married his loving wife of 70 years, Betty Ann Kraker who survives along with their children, Keith (Ronda) Hefner, Donna (Jim) Smith, and Darla (Jon) Rothenberger; son-in-law, Jim Koontz; seven grandchildren: Bryan (Keyya), Matt (Arin), Adam (Erica), Ryan (Nichole), Kristin (Brad), Amanda, and Jacob; eight great grandchildren; brothers, Glenn and Roy Hefner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Darlene Koontz; brothers, Paul, Carl, Earl, and Dale; and sister, Velma. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM at KOSANKE FUNERAL HOME, 105 E. Indiana Ave., Kouts with a Funeral Service on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:30 AM at LaCrosse United Methodist Church 11 N. Indiana St., LaCrosse. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Kouts.
