Verna T. Baker, 85, of South Buffalo passed away at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Fair Winds Manor, Winfield.

Born in New Bethlehem, on June 20, 1919, she was the daughter of the late John and Ella (Nelson) McGregor.

She was a member of Srader Grove Presbyterian Church in South Buffalo. Mrs. Baker was a housewife and enjoyed gardening, canning and reading. She was a member of South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Srader Grove Presbyterian Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Conti of Freeport; a son, Edward Baker of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Peggy Baker of South Buffalo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank "Hank" Baker, in 1991; a son, James F. Baker, in 2003; a great-grandson, Jason Melcher, in 1998; and a brother, Ronald McGregor.

Friends and family will be received today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at REDMOND FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, with the Rev. Michael Wilson and lay minister, Lloyd Riggle, her ministers, officiating. Graveside services will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
