OBITUARY: Mary Gladys Clark
On October 24, 2017, Mary Gladys Clark, at age 98, went home to join her Lord Jesus and many family members in Heaven. She was born to E.A. and Estelle Sowell on January 19, 1919 on a homestead near Plains, CO, in the middle of a blizzard. Her early years were spent in Texas, eventually graduating in 1938 from Holly, CO, High School as valedictorian of her class.
She married James A. Clark on February 5, 1939. They were blessed with two children, James and Roxanne.
They moved to the Tri-Cities in 1947 where Mary Gladys worked in various bookkeeping jobs until retiring from Kadlec Hospital.
She joined Richland Baptist Church in 1956 and remained an active member there for over 50 years, serving in many capacities.
She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother, talented seamstress and quilter (every stitch by hand), cook and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers (Buck and Ancel), and one sister (Elwanda).
She is survived by her son, James (Connie) of Lacey, WA, her daughter, Roxanne (Mitch) Grundmeier of Kennewick, WA, brother, Harley Sowell (Johnnie) of Fresno, CA and her sister, Barbara Sowell of Richland, WA. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and her great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held on November 11, 2017 at 10:00am at Sunset Gardens in Richland. A Memorial service will follow at Richland Baptist Church, 1632 George Washington Way, Richland, WA, at 11:00am.
