William A. Kent, a longtime resident of Riverdale, passed away of natural causes on Thursday, October 6. He was 87 years old. Bill emerged from a difficult childhood in The Bronx to become a successful stockbroker and writer. His many passions included playing softball, baking bread, taking photographs, and researching nutrition. He was featured in a number of news stories about an organization he founded, the New York Baseball Giants Nostalgia Club, including a 2008 New York Times article. Bill was a speechwriter and public relations specialist for the Republican Party before becoming a stockbroker, and later served as Director of Institutional Research for the brokerage firm Philips, Appel & Walden. He wrote for the business publication Barron's for many years, and often appeared as a business commentator on radio and television programs. He ran a relief effort for Biafra in the 1970s, and later in life created a website, healthbulletin.org, devoted to sharing information on foods that cure illness. He wrote two books, was a voracious reader throughout his life, and passed on his love of books and learning to his children. Bill will be missed by friends and family, and remembered as a colorful, gregarious and hard-working guy. He is survived by his children, Victoria Worth and James Klein, two granddaughters, Charlotte Worth and Lena Klein, and his sister, Judie Rokofsky. He was buried October 16th at Mt. Sinai Cemetery in Simi Valley, California.
