She was born in Amazonia, Mo., but had lived most of her life in St. Joseph.
She married Ralph Gardner; and together they shared 67 years of marriage.
She retired from Swift & Co. upon its closing.
She was a Christian.
Darlene was preceded in death by her mother, Hester Milbourn; her father and stepmother, Sam and Olive Milbourn; a son, Don Gardner; two brothers, Clifford and Clyde Milbourn; and two sisters, Erma Hubbard and Pearl Lakin.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Spicer, and husband, Gale of St. Joseph; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph.
