Marian Elizabeth Stehouwer, 95 of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Marian was born on January 23, 1917 in Grand Rapids to Frank L. and Esther (Stiles) Austin. She married Robert H. Stehouwer on June 28, 1938 in Grand Rapids and they raised three children. Together, Bob and Marian shared over 71 years together before his death in 2009.
Marian was a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. She enjoyed volunteering at Munson. She was a former member of Faith Reformed Church and a current member of the First Congregational Church.
In 1952, Marian and Bob moved to Traverse City and founded E & J Supply, working there until they retired in 1975. Marian will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Surviving Marian are her children, Susan (Jay) Griner, Robert (Kay) Stehouwer, son in law Jimmie Grell, all of Traverse City; grandchildren, Joan Griner (Norman) Licht of Traverse City, Steven Griner of Charleston, S.C., Kristin (David Rausch) Stehouwer of Midland, Eric (Nancy) Stehouwer of Traverse City, Tracey (Chris Guthrie) George, Marjorie (Jonathan Petty) George, all of Nashville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Allyson and Charlie Licht, Bobby and Austin Stehouwer, Nate and Russ Petty and Elliot George.
She is predeceased by her husband Bob in 2009, daughter Marcia in 2011, and all of her siblings, Ruth, Garth, Frank, Robert, and Don.
