Ernie William Aberle, formerly of Tremont, passed away at Apostolic Christian Restmor at 11:45am, Tuesday, November 21, 2017, where he had been a resident since May.

He was born in Tremont on June 29, 1926, the youngest son of August and Lena (Menold) Aberle. He married Frieda Resch on May 9, 1956 in Regensburg, Germany. She survives along with four children, Peter (Deborah) and Timothy (Candi), both of Tremont, Andrew of Edelstein, and Heidi (Dean) Sinn of Silverton, Oregon. He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Ernie & Frieda also opened their home to a number of foster children who were dear to them. His parents, four brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.

Ernie served in the U.S.Army from 1954 - 1956 serving at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX and Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs and was later stationed in Germany where he met and married his bride. Later in life, he and Frieda greatly appreciated the fellowship at the reoccurring soldier reunions.

Ernie and Frieda operated their family dairy and grain farm near Tremont working together until retiring in November 1991. Throughout the majority of those years they especially enjoyed working in their timber and woodlands cutting firewood and clearing and improving the land. Ernie was known for his common-sense approach and mechanical tinkering skills which he used to good advantage as he maintained his facilities and equipment. As a father, he was ever diligent in imparting his habits and values of hard work, cleanliness, no waste, timeliness, moderation, and contentment through word and example to the next generation.

Upon retirement, Ernie continued to enjoy being involved in the farming operation helping out wherever and whenever he could. He and Frieda also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Frieda's European homeland, and many other destinations. For many years they also found great satisfaction in wintering in the Sarasota, Florida area where they developed and cherished many long-lasting friendships.

From an early age in school and ongoing throughout his years, singing and music were always a source of happiness, joy, and comfort for Ernie. He particularly enjoyed playing the piano and harmonica in his own unique, self-taught style.

As an example, for his wife, children, and for all to see, Dad will always be remembered as a man who placed his faith in Christ as his first priority, valued and supported his church family, nurtured and provided for his own family with diligence, and was a faithful steward of the land and animals with which he had been entrusted.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Tremont, where services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 25, 2017. Ministers of the church will officiate. Visitation will be at Davis-Oswald Funeral Home in Tremont on Friday, November 24 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm, and 9:00-9:45am at the church prior to funeral services on Saturday morning. Burial will be in Apostolic Christian Cemetery in Tremont.
