Friends:
It is with a heavy heart that I must officially inform you that a great man has passed on.
1st SGT Day...Paul...passed away quietly in his daughter's home, from heart and kidney failure, in South Florida. This had been his residence for the last couple of years.
He was cremated and his cremains are now with his wife of record. No services or memorials were or will be performed. At present, his cremains will remain with his current wife.
Here is a brief message from his daughter:
"Dear David,
I can't thank you enough for such wonderful words. I was blessed to be able to spend the last two years of his life with him; caring for him keeping his doctors’ appointments and making sure he had his regular shave amongst other things.
The last few months have been extremely difficult on him but he always held every single one of his students dear in his heart. He would want you to remember him fondly, grieve as you must, but have a drink and a smile and tell wonderful stories that pertain to him, as I know he is watching out for all the ones he loved and everyone who had an impact on his life.
Directly beside his living room television, he had a picture of him with his students. So please know that every student he had, stayed in his heart and his memory and he remembered them all fondly.
I tell my grandchildren that he's a soldier for God, that he was chosen for his strength and his valor and his extreme kindness! I do believe that his students would agree.""
So...where ever you are now, take a moment, lift a dram or a pint, say a silent prayer, remember a "happy" thought. Wish him well and drink.
In fine Navy tradition:
Fair Winds and Following Seas
Shipmate... the watch stands relieved
Relieved by those You have trained ,Guided, and Lead
Shipmate you stand relieved.. we have the watch...
