FUNERAL OF RABBI RABINOWITZ

Large Number of Friends Gather at the Late Leader’s Synagogue.

The funeral services of Rabbi Abraham Rabinowitz, pastor of congregation of Ohavo Scholom on Canal street were conducted by Rabbi Bernstein at 11 o’clock yesterday. A short and impressive service took place at the synagogue of the late rabbi, after which the mourners repaired to the synagogue at Clinton and Judd streets. Owing to the large number in attendance the services were conducted out of doors. Rabbi Bernstein was assisted by several rabbis, who added to his their testimonials of respect. It was nearly 1 o’clock before the long line of carriages took up the way to the burial grounds at Seventy-second street, where the remains were interred.

Rabbi Rabinowitz was a native Russian, but accepted a call to the Ohavo Scholom congregation, No. 582 Canal street, two years and a half ago. He laboured zealously among his people. He died Tuesday after a brief illness. He was 66 years of age and was born in Neustadt, Russia, being of an old rabbinical family. He leaves a widow and one son living in Chicago, and also leaves several children by a former marriage living in Russia near Neustadt and Schillel, his former home.

The services yesterday were conducted in the Rabbi’s native language.
