Annette Ruth (von Seggern) Carstens
Annette was born on September 7th 1936 to Harvey E. and Erna Ruth (Schmidt) von Seggern in Fremont, Nebraska. Annette grew up on the family farm outside of Fremont. At the age of ten Annette had a beloved pet raccoon that she named Willie. She so loved Willie that she even painted a ceramic figure of him that she keep on her knick- knack shelves along with many other treasures. She graduated from Fremont high school in 1954. While working at a dime store in Winside, Nebraska she met her future sister in-law who introduced her to the love of her life, Jack. They were married on January 21, 1956 in Elk Point, South Dakota. She and Jack lived on multiple farms and towns throughout northeastern Nebraska until they settled in Lincoln in 1961. She and Jack had seven children born of their union. Her first son Terry died at birth, but she was blessed with six more children. Linda first, followed by Kelly, Pam, Doug, Rodney and Sheila. Annette was a care giver all through her life. She worked at Tabitha nursing home and then later at Gramercy Hill nursing home, from which she retired in 2011. But retirement was not for her and she started volunteering for Food Net in Havelock. She enjoyed helping people and always tried to find the best in others. Annette had many interests and hobbies; she loved reading, especially romance novels. She went to the library book sales several years in a row to buy more books to read. She also painted many ceramics for family and friends and also did crafts, some of which she had received through the mail years ago. Family was also important to her. She loved visiting with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When Jack's health declined she became his main caregiver, as was her nature, and continued in that role until his passing.
She is survived by daughters Linda Weisbeck, Kelly Carstens, Sheila Gans and husband Jeff, sons Doug and Rodney, sister Adelaide Low, brother Dale von Seggern, sisters-in-law Nancy Bauer, Mary Otto, Barbara Carstens and Sharon Carstens, 19 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack, her parents, son Terry and daughter Pam Carstens-Zwiebel, brothers John and Egbert von Seggern and two great grandaughters.
